Hi Ferd,
At $10 per cubic centimeter for stainless steel parts of this size get very expensive so I will need some competing prices to see if it is a reasonable solution.

My plan is to use the coupling rings for a pattern for a low temperature silicone mold and then use my normal lost wax process with bronze only use the electric crucible not the hand held torch crucible I use for the small stuff.

I had the dreaded non-manifold error with the push pole pocket for 7/8ths scale but it worked fine for 1/5 scale so I just had to order one. I will have to go back and try to fix the file to get a better pattern in either scale.
Cheers Dan

That is very cool - are you also getting the part in stainless or are you finishing the plastic part for vulcanizing?

Dan,

As always, your efforts are not miss-spent and the results are outstanding.  Can't wait to see the actual castings.  Thanks for sharing the images

Hi Ferd,
Here is the one that gave the most trouble to draw. As you can not use a file to smooth rough edges in 3D cad I had to learn surface modeling which is a bit more complex than solid modeling.

There were a couple of rough spots so which are where I joined surfaces so I have not quite mastered surface moddeling yet.

To make the scale clear the plan is to scale the Mich-Cal #5 S/N 797 and divide the Lima drawings by exactly 5. This plan will make finding bolts and stock a lot more material friendly. My other long time scale is 7/8" to the foot or 7/96 scale so I have really learned to hate dividing by 13.7.

The drawings are being redrawn in ViaCad which is compatable with a Mac and a PC. I have figured out how to use rapid prototype for the smaller scale and here is the first of the parts for the larger scale. The graph paper is 5mm grid.

The RP work was done by Shapeways which is in the Netherlands and an instant quote is given with shipping to anywhere in the world included in USD. http://www.shapeways.com/
Cheers Dan
