Cylinders - drilling the steam passages
« Reply #1 on: December 04, 2009, 04:23:35 PM »
Hi folks. long time no see!

I have just been wondering if anyone out there can tell me the best way to line up cylinder castings accurately on my vertical milling machine to drill the steam passageways which go from the bore at each end of the cylinder to the steam ports. I am of course talking about slide valves rather than piston valves. It seems to me that getting the angle right is quite critical, if one is to avoid the drill breaking out in the wrong place. Also should the drill be started right at the edge of the bore, or slightly further away from the bore?
