Hi Ferd

On my Polly 5 loco which I told you about some time ago, the regulator operates anti-clockwise to open and clockwise to shut,  but in our club I have driven locos which operate the other way. I have to admit it does seem a bit strange and possibly risky, but I have never had a problem with that. I guess if one takes over a loco to drive it, it should have been handed over with the regulator shut.
Incidentally, some full size locos over here have regulators that operate forwards and backwards. I think they are closed in the forward position.

Cheers

Just imagine what would happen if autos had accelerator pedals that worked in various directions !!
Somedays that would explain the way some people drive.  ;D ;D

Ferd,
Thank you for your input, I will use the direction as you suggest. I found a picture of the Lilla cab which shows the regulator clockwise for off.
I am still supprised that there is not a universal convention, just imagine what would happen if autos had accelerator pedals that worked in various directions !!
Cheers
Philip

My experience has been either, pending on the designer. For me the most logical is counterclockwise to open (full throttle) and clockwise to close.

At the risk of sounding dumb. On a regulator that is controlled by a lever travelling in a 60 degree arc which way should full throttle be ? clockwise or counter clockwise.
Thanks
Philip
