Mike,
I have never designed anything like this but why not carbon brushes? We used big ones on the ships to put a low volt reverse DC current on the shaft to protect the propeller from galvanic corrosion. Lots of DC motors of all sizes use carbon brushes so the material is readily available I would think.
Cheers Dan

Hello all
I need to build a set of third rail collector shoes for my 12 volt DC engine. They will need to handle up to about 12 amps . Has anybody already tried this or has any designs I could try. I was thinking along the lines of a brass shoe on a swinging arm held down with springs and held by some insulation material.
Cheers Mike.
