Earlier this week, electricians working on the miniature railway depot building
installed the mains transformer and fume extractor fan. In the spirit of reuse
and recycle, we are using an older floor-model type transformer that was last
used to power the roundhouse fire and security system prior to the current
renovations. To save floor space in the depot, we fabricated new wall
brackets to raise it above head height.

Here are some more pictures of the trainshed as it appears today awaiting final finsihing, In keeping with ecological trends, it will have a green roof in due course so it may be one of the first underground trainsheds in the miniature railway world!

Ferd:

The next 7 1/2" gauge engine to be built is likely a model of the CLC Whitcomb that we already own in full-size.  Michael has that partly built already.  One of the GHLS club members is starting to build a scale model of a CPR Royal Hudson with the idea of the museum having first crack at buying it from him if we wish.  Other than that, there are no specific plans at the moment.

Arminius:

We expect the official opening of the first stage of the Museum will be in the spring of 2010.  It will likley be before the Toronto-wide Doors Open weekend which is on May 29/30 2010 which is always a big wekeend for us and turn it into a bit of a "Trainz Show" for the public.  We will likely have an official opening a week or two before that.  I am also thinking of having a special event for us Model Engineers to celebrate the completion of the miniature railway alone and invite local miniature railway enthusiasts.

There is always free beer samples available at the Brewery but in limited quantities.  We have proposed their running a tap through the wall to our workshop area but they seem reluctant to do so. <grin>

Greetings, Russ!

A very fine photo essay indeed reporting on the happenings at the foot of the CN tower in Toronto.  Quite an impressive work site.

Methinks a visit is in the offing in the spring;  my older son just bought his own digs near King and Dufferin from where it will be very easy to drop by.

When is the Golden Spike and inaugural run scheduled to take place?

Do you at least get free beer from the Steam Whistle Brewery for the advertising???

Best regards,

Arminius (Ol' 2888 Hudson)

Hi Russ
Do you by chance know if they are going to be added actual CN and CP prototypes to the 7.25" roster. Seems that would be a perfect fit to the surrounding structures.

Here is today's installment.  I am playing catchup with getting the pictures up so that will explain how quickly it seems to be being built!

One of the things that we needed of course for our 7 1/2" gauge miniature railway was a turntable and engine/passenger car depot.  In the pictures below the forms for the pouring of the foundations are evident. The turntable, will for safety's sake not be in a turntable pit of any serious depth.  Part of the depot will include tracks being well above a pit to allow for servicing of our engines and rolling stock.
