My son Ian is the driver and I'm the old guy behind him in the steaming bay with a similar hat.

Jim, I don't think that I will make it to the MLS track again this year... my wife is not well.  We are looking forward towards next year's Canada Day weekend at the MLS!

Armenius brought his Hudson once again to our Golden Horseshoe Live Steamers ( http://www.ghls.ca ) track a week ago and it ran beautifully. "Hoffman Hudsons" are quite popular in this area s the fellow who made and sold the castings lived in the Kitchener, Ontario area many years ago and there are a number of them around.

Back from the MLS meet safe and sound.

The hospitality and cameradery were truly outstanding.

The newly improved elevated track, now about 990 meters (as checked with a GPS receiver) long is a pleasure to steam on.

But it surely looks like a real steam locomotive now, covered in soot and oil!

It was great to see the Hudson in steam. Glad you and Ian had a good time. I know James was a happy engineer.

We will have a few more runs before the snow flies so perhaps you will visit us once more?

I tried to post 16 photos from the MLS meet along with some notes, but the connection timed out.  Any ideas on what the difficulty may be?  Should I try several batches of fewer pics?

Back from the MLS meet safe and sound.

The hospitality and cameradery were truly outstanding.  When I drove into the grounds there appeared to be more cars with American license plates than Canadian... There were at least 2 dozen 3 1/2" gauge or 4 3/4" gauge locomotives present...  didn't count the ground level equipment present.

Lots of tents and RV on the grounds.

The newly improved elevated track, now about 990 meters (as checked with a GPS receiver) long is a pleasure to steam on.

The weather was very wet, on Friday night the grounds took on a distinctly swampy air!  But the warm hospitality and good food overcame all that dampness with ease.

This was the first time my 3/4" scale CPR Hudson was steamed with coal and run on a track, and I am pleased to report that it steamed and ran flawlessly... There are some minor defects that require attention... After almost 8 hours of running the turbo-generator slowed down and stopped; probably a plugged steam nozzle.  Also the draw bar between tender and loco will need to be lengthened by 1/4" or so because the curves on the track cause the loco cab to touch the tender foot plate.  And the steam brake valve began leaking.  All pretty minor stuff considering.

But it surely looks like a real steam locomotive now, covered in soot and oil!

Here are some additional photos my son took during the first steaming on a roller test bed last year.  We have since painted the tender and locomotive cab black.  Also, the cylinder head bolts are now hexagon head cap screws.

Notice that the steam valve hand wheels are of phenolic plastic, a heat resistant and insulating plastic to protect the fingers.  Had a brass lever-type finger operated whistle valve.... got way too hot for use.  Modified it to a chain operated type of valve since last year. The valve next to the pressure gauge is shown incomplete.
