Calling all 1st Class Engineers, Hostlers, Boomers, Hoggers, Conductors and Hobos!
The time has come to for the Montreal Live Steamers to celebrate 75 years of live steaming with the 75th Anniversary Live Steam Meet & Exposition
July 1st - 5th, 2009
Plan now for your trip back to the golden days of live steam. Don't lament the passing of legendary tracks like Lachine, Danvers and Lyndhurst! It's time to make new legends!
How is a Heritage Meet different than a regular Meet?
Beside celebrating the history of our hobby, we also try to evoke the spirit of live steaming by restricting access to only our live steam brothers and railroad theme clubs or associations (no public). We encourage the display and operation of historic locomotives and rolling stock and the wearing of vintage clothing & hats from days gone by. We even take the theme of heritage into the kitchen with food & beverages of the day whenever possible.
Speaking of food...
We consider good food & beverages to be essential to a successful Meet. Meals are served on the site so you can enjoy your time with fellow engineers rather than "going to town" if you wish. Breakfast, lunch and dinner will be available each day.
Movie Time!
We had kind compliments from the 2004 Heritage Meet when we showed vintage live steam movies under the big tent each night. Eat fresh popcorn while watching these 16MM movies and as a special treat, preview the IMAX feature film "Rocky Mountain Express" directed by Stephen Low. This film focuses on the Canadian Pacific's Hudson No. 2816 as she runs through the stunning scenery of the Canadian Rocky Mountains. Stephen has built several OS live steam engines and plans on attending for a special Q & A about the filming and the engine.
Going, going... GONE!
We have a fantastic 3/4" scale boxcar to auction off as a fundraiser. We thought a silent auction might be the best way do this. We may have additional items for sale but no matter what... someone is going to go home with a really nice, handmade boxcar!
Exposition?
In the earlier years of live steam Meets it was customary to bring along projects under construction so that tips & tricks could be discussed with fellow builders. We hope you bring along such projects with you. Vendors are very welcome to attend and show your wares. We expect to see Yankee Shops to have a display this year.
Club Facilities
The Montreal Live Steamers' club facilities are located on the outskirts of the village of Les Cèdres, Québec in beautiful Canada. Tracks are provided for 7-1/4" trains on the ground with a mainline length of over 4000 feet. An elevated track for 4-3/4" & 3-1/2" gauge trains is due to expand from 800 feet to an astonishing 1300 feet in length in time for the big Meet. Engine terminals have electricity, water and compressed air. A hydraulic lift is available for the 7-1/4" equipment. A temporary Gauge 1 track could be set-up with advance notice.
Night running is strictly encouraged as are long trains and general hilarity.
Camping at MLS
We don't blame you for not wanting to miss any of the fun at MLS. There is room on site for travel trailers and RV's although we do not provide services. There is nearly unlimited space for camping tents. A hot shower is available along with toilet facilities. A listing of local motels and campgrounds will be posted on our web site.
More announcements will be made as they are confirmed. Please do not hesitate to ask any questions you may have about this event.
If you can kindly inform us of your intention to attend and the number in your party we can better plan the quantities of food.
