Hi Tom
The cab looks great - that is an impressive maze of plumbing.

Now into the cab. We put in a new bracket for the air brake controller and raised it up to make it eaiser to grab. Mel wanted a resevoir to hold air for the sanders so it would hit them with a blast then slow to a trickle so I used a pipe we had and capped and made brackets to hold. If you look in the Lt front corner you can make that out. I moved the Steam pressure gauge up for better viewing. Two views to look over.

Jack bought the engine from Marty. He made a new frame for it as the original was to flimsy. Marty and Jim traded parts for machining as it needed the cylinders drilled and Jim needed a boiler for my #24. There was other horse trading by those two for the engine. Marty made a couple of cabs but nothing that Jack liked.

Ah, Marty Knox, the "boiler man". I have met him several times and respect his deep expertise on boilers and loco restoration. What was he doing for you guys? Or is he part of yoru crew?

One more, The lines to the air pump are hooked up. Quite the nest of tubes.

Thanks guys, some more pics. We needed to add cooling for the air system. Mel soldered up some ends to adapt what Marty Knox left for us. I made some brackets to hold them. We now have cooling loops in the air line.

Very nice, Tom!
I have been AWOL here on the forums as I was heavily involved for the past couple of months in the completion of a 1:1 full size diesel cab simulation project for our museum. I wonder if that qualifies as a model engineerign project or not .. maybe I will post ti anyway

Hi Tom
Thanks - it great to see the cab evolve. I am still in awe of the size of the locos. Although I don't envy moving them around.

Now that the cab is bolted to the deck, we can hook up all the lines that were removed. The link to the cylinder cocks had to be reworked to miss the injector steam line. The Johnson bar link need extending as we moved the quadrent back some for easier gripping. Mel used bulkhead unions to pass thru the cab wall for the different lines that need to go out from the cab. Makes cab removal real easy.

Here is a shot of it with the cab frame painted and placed on the frame so we could mockup the coal bunker and get the size for the water tank. Pre planning saves on metal wasting.
Then a shot of the front wall being glued and screwed into place.
Then a test fit to see where we needed to trim.

My next series of posts will be the building of a new cab for #10. It looked like a fone booth on a steam chassie. Jack hoped to get Mel interested in making a more scale appearing one and he finally did. First a shot of 10 before hand. Then some of the frame we welded up.
