We had some friends come over for a train ride.  They brought the neighbors kids along for a ride.

Ferd,

So far none have on that side of Phelps.  Plus, he is posing incase you actually thought he was that focused.  It also saves on engine brakes if we can get the brakeman to add a little drag to the train on the way down.  The grade on the west side of Phelps hits 5.2% so we are always careful when decending .

Jack had 3 cars get loose on him on the other side of Phelps one day.  He was pushing 3 cars to do track work and when he crested the grade out of Phelps to Kat Jct., they came loose from #25 and took off on the 4% and went thru Kat Jct. and around the curve there but didn't make the next one as all 3 flats were off in the dirt when he caught up.  So since then,  the rule is to have some one on the end of the cars to be ready or have the engine on the major down hill side to protect.

how often do the cars get away from the engineer! the brakeman looks very focused.

With all those loads up the hill, the empties need to come down.  Here is a shot of the brakeman with his club, by a brake wheel, ready to slow the consit if it gets away from the engineer.

Sunday arrived bright and clear so we fired up #7 again and hauled wood in the AM.  #7 couldn't pull all the loads up the hill so had to cut away part way up and take a car to the woodshed.  Fireman was losing steam, not engine fault.

We had a TimeTable & Train Order operating session in November.  Some Pics. The shot of the train is from me in the lead engine looking back.

With fall upon us, it was time to find the ROW under all the Oak tree leaves that have fallen on the rails.  Here is a pic of Jim Small helping to ward them off with our "Big Blow" as I ride in the gon waiting to help with a rake if needed.  pic by JNO.  Jim's friend, Jim Parker is runing the engine for us.

Russ,  our season starts now as fire danger is lowest.  We are real slow in the summer.   Look forward to you pics on the big stuff.

Pushed some loads of wood up the hill.  A pic from leaning out of the cab of #25 of the 3 loads and a rider gon.  Just West of Sumac heading for the 5%.

Ferd,

Yes it has a bunch with the air brakes and sander lines added.  Plus we took the air for the sanders off the first resevoir (Rt side tank) only, so if you piss away all the air on the sanders the second resevoir (Lt side tank) has air for the brakes still.  This made new lines necessary and a check valve between tanks.  Safety first!
