This is one of a series of postings highlighting features of the operations facilities at the Golden Horseshoe Live Steamers of Hamilton, Ontario, Canada (see
www.ghls.ca)
(1) and (2): This is our 3-D loader/unloade designed and built by an engineer who is a member of our club. It us driven by a Honda gasoline engine which drives a hydraulic pump. Hydraulic actuators allow the operator to move the loader in any one of three dimension to line the track up with the trailers, trucks and other vehicles used to transport heavy 7 1/4" gauge locomotives and train sets.
(3) Here is a closeup of a section of our 50 foot trestle which spans a low area of our site. It is a steel structure with long wooden ties under the track allowing for passenger to disembark on the trestle if necessary. The legs sit on concrete pads.
(4) and (5) The last two pictures are of our turntable which allows us to move engines to radial tracks for steam-up and repair purposes. The closeup show a massive central pivot which supports the turntable. This is a surplus "turntable" intended for use originally for rotating a full size ship's mast which we were fortunate to acquire.
