My friend who built the model of the Falk shown earlier is pretty sure that he built the boiler from the plans in the Live Steam issues.  The bad news is that those issues are missing in his extensive collection of Live Steam magazines.  He gave me his list of missing issues and they are Jan/Feb 1992 and May/June 1993.  Not sure if it is only one or boyh of  those issues that are required.

I checked the Falk book  (I own a copy) and you are correct that the author did not have the courage to publish the boiler part perhaps because he was concerned re liabilitty of some sort.

I spoke to the builder of this fine model and he diod not build it from the book but rather from the poriginal m articles which I thought formed the basis of the book.  I have the book somewhere in my possession and will try and find it and compare the book to his set of articles to see if if the boiler informaiton is misisng from the book.

If there is additional information in the articles I will make them available.

The interesting part is that the engine has never been operated under steam.  My firend is much more of a builder than an operator.  It has been tested on air and runs fine that way.  I am encouraging my friend to run it in the spring.

Would you post you findings on the Falk Engine boiler. I bought the book about two years ago and fell in love with engine. I was going to build it  but power it by Electric motor, but it would not be respectfull to such a part of History. I was a little scared to tackel building the boilor with out some size, material, ect ect. information.  I would have hatto  run out of steam before starting down the track.
            Thanks for the Help

Roger:

I will check with the builder of the loco in the picture to see where he got his plans or if he still has them.  I see him every second weekend .. I will see him on Saturday

Hi Ferd,

I bought the book a year ago, but was disappointed to find that no drawings of the boiler were included.  Are details of a copper boiler available for this loco?

Here is an interesting locomotive built from castings (no longer available). The prototype still exists today in restored condition at the Timber Heritage Association in Eureka California. http://www.timberheritage.org/redwoodcountry.htm. There is also a frequent occurrence of plans and the how to build book on the internet and eBay. The featured locomotive was built by Tom, a member of the GHLS Golden Horseshoe Live Steamers. The Falk is propane fueled and runs on 7.25" Gauge. The winch is steam operated and I would have loved to have seen it in operation. This is probably one of the most compact 7.25" / 7.5" Gauge locomotives one could build. Here are a series of pictures detailing the locomotive.
